Lightning 100 announces Carey Ott as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week! While originally from Chicago, Ott has had no trouble making a name for himself in Music City.
Getting his start with a band called Torben Floor in the 90s, Ott’s contemplative lyrics and demeanor became very popular with the local Chicago club scene. This sound led to greater interest from larger venues and festivals, and the band eventually released their debut album Live Music in the Apartment in 1999. While the group split not long after, a demo Ott recorded with producer Ed Tinely made its way into the hands of producer Ray Kennedy, who then gave it to Dualtone Records in Nashville, TN. After signing a record deal and leaving Chicago, Ott released his first solo album Lucid Dream in 2006.
Since then, Ott has released 5 albums, with many of his songs gaining commercial success in TV & Film. His frequent collaborations with local musicians has allowed him to further ground himself in the Nashville music locale, with his impressive multi-instrumental talents and unique, genre-bending sound.
You can listen to his newest collaboration and Leap Day treat, “World Gone Crazy” (feat. Freaks of Nashville), on February 29th. Pre-save the song here on February 16th to make sure you don’t miss it!
