Our Frothy Monkey‘s local artist of the week is Crumbsnatchers with their new song “Satin Glow”!
With the kind of music that sounds like colors and an energy that radiates light and electricity, Crumbsnatchers has cemented themselves as a mainstay among Nashville’s indie rock alumni. Now that they’re comfortably acclimated to the challenges and adversity presented to new original artists, the sky’s the limit. Approaching a decade since their first release, the group, fronted by Guetts Guetterman, has pulled their sound to new creative heights. PETWAY is the culmination.
Turning trauma into triumph, the group sprouted from a “church camp” for “rebellious teens.” Guetts had to to persevere through the abuse and unlivable conditions by smuggling in CD players and contraband secular music. Pulling the band’s name from a condescending slight, they were finally able to make music on their terms upon release. They’ve since channeled their backgrounds into a true musical carnival, featuring a rotating cast of musicians, styles, and collaborators. With a new label, Like You Mean It Records, Crumbsnatchers has released the album they were always meant to make.
“Satin Glow” is a glitzy glam banger that calls to mind both the massive sound of the Flaming Lips as well as the flashy guitar work of rock legends from decades past. A true blue rocker, however, there’s plenty of room for Crumbsnatchers’ own personality to fly freely. Guetts calls out the phonies and takes what’s his on this one. While a blast to sing along to, the rapid-fire lyrics are mostly build up to that ever cathartic chorus. The instrumental bridge has riffs for days, bringing it all back home before this statement piece comes to a close.
PETWAY, the group’s second full-length LP is out now, featuring “Satin Glow” as well as collaborative tracks with Flight Attendant and New Translations. The band’s feature at Lightning 100’s Nashville Sunday Night follows a string of shows across the south. Check out the video for “Satin Glow” below.
