Lightning 100 announces Hana Eid as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week! With her debut EP “I Exist Because You Say So” coming out in just a few days, Hana Eid is quickly proving herself to be one of the newest and most exciting rising talents in the local Nashville indie rock scene.
The project’s lead single, “Weird,” is a powerful, thrilling culmination of Eid’s lifelong interest in rock music, songwriting, and performance. Growing up in Fairfax, Virginia, Eid got her start playing rock shows in and around Washington, D.C. at age 15, after many years of playing guitar and refining her sound and stage presence. In 2021, her love of performing and writing brought her to Nashville to study at Belmont University, where she continues to cultivate her career and repertoire in the industry.
“Weird,” along with her other recent releases, shows off her impressive capabilities as both a high-energy performer and a relatable songwriter. The song has a steady, punchy beat that rolls to the familiar sound of crunchy, chugging guitars that have accompanied many of indie rock’s favorite artists before her. The lyrics – delivered confidently through Eid’s dramatic and youthful rock vocals – describe the everlasting frustration of second-guessing one’s own feelings for someone, an angst that’s compounded by the gritty tone of the music behind it. With subdued verses that pour into euphoric choruses, and a melody so catchy it rivals her biggest influences in the indie rock genre, “Weird” is a definitive and electrifying statement for Eid’s budding discography and for all rock music of the new generation.
