Our very own Ana Lee was not wrong when she introduced them as “masters of acoustic music.” However, they are so much more than that as they somehow make distortion feel at home within the genre of Bluegrass music. With this five-piece string band, no performance is the same; each improvised lick and run different from the last one. Including two Grateful Dead cover, their set also included a twenty-plus minute rendition of the Lovin’ Spoonful classic “Summer in the City”, they showcased the musical genius of each member, with mandolin solos with a wah pedal, a bass line reminiscent of the late 70’s and a fiddle so distorted it felt at home in classic rock. Bassist, Ben Kaufmann, invited Leslie of the Railsplitters to join him in tandem on the upright bass leaving the packed house at 3rd Lindsley wanting more.
