Alice Merton “run away girl” – Rev’s DJ Pick of the Week
Rev’s DJ Pick of the Week is Alice Merton’s “run away girl!”
“run away girl” is Merton’s first single of the new year. The almost four minute track is a battle cry about trying to find yourself. With moving lyrics like “So I cut the shackles and changed my name / and I’ll shed my past like skin on a snake,” Merton knows how to effortlessly connect to her audience.
The singer-songwriter leans well into the pop genre while still remaining genuine and true to her own roots. Born in Germany but raised in Canada and England, Merton has had different cultures affecting her music. She’s found a way to blend different genres and aesthetics to make the sound she’s known for.
“run away girl” follows her two previously released singles, “Charlie Brown” and “Waste My Life.” As the third single released, it’s possible there’s an EP or LP on the rise. With a North American tour set for May, Merton is hitting the road to connect with fans. Her dates include a stop at the Basement East on May 13!
Merton’s sound is unique and easily memorable. “run away girl” is a perfect track for new listeners to fall in love with!
