Chicago singer-songwriter Andrew Belle released “Spectrum” early this month ahead of his new album Nightshade. Using dreamy guitar, a simple beat, and an otherworldly-sounding synth line, the song is a poignant reminder of how relationships can intertwine with your mental health. “Spectrum” is Melissa’s DJ Pick of the Week!
“Spectrum” is a love song, but a love song complicated by the cramped quarters of quarantine. It’s one of the many songs that came out of the complex feelings of 2020. “This song is about using love and relationships as a way to cope with the difficulties of life,” said Belle on Twitter. “It touches on various aspects of mental health, including codependency, which I think is something that many of us were forced to confront over the course of the last year.”
The music video for “Spectrum” follows Belle as he performs the song in a room filled with light and color. Different camera effects give the feeling of nostalgia and looking back on the better days of a relationship. You can check it out below!
Nightshade comes out on August 20th. Until then, be sure to tune into 100.1 FM or lightning100.com to hear “Spectrum” by Andrew Belle, featured as Melissa’s DJ Pick of the Week. Be sure to let us know your thoughts! Tweet at us with #L100DJPick and share your take on the track.
