Mel’s DJ Pick this week is “Cosmic Space Girl” by The Brummies! This track is the latest single from their forthcoming album. The Brummies have been playing together since high school, growing up together outside of Birmingham, AL. The members name the Beatles, Elton John, and My Morning Jacket among their influences. However, they also have a soft spot for sweeping film soundtracks. Their trademark sound evokes the psych-rock vibe of the Sixties and the soft indie-folk of the Nineties. Additionally, it possesses a timeless quality all its own.

The Brummies debut album, Eternal Reach, was recorded with Grammy award-winning engineer Jeremy Ferguson and co-producer David Hopkins. The album includes single “Drive Away” featuring Kacey Musgraves. The band’s sophomore album, Automatic World, was also recorded with Jeremy Ferguson engineering and Austin Jenkins co producing alongside Jarrad K. Automatic World includes rhythmic guitar riffs straight out the Seventies and a range of the darkest and lightest tones in music.

The band has toured domestically and internationally with St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Kacey Musgraves, the Wild Feathers, NEEDTOBREATHE, and BANNERS among others. They currently await the release of their third album. You can listen to “Cosmic Space Girl” here:
