Sunflower Bean was formed in New York in 2013 by Nick Kivlen and Jacob Faber. Bassist and vocalist Julia Cummings joined later in the year. Over the following years, the band released their first EP, performed at SXSW, and signed a record deal. After releasing two albums in 2016 and 2018, Sunflower Bean put out a new single this week!
Jayson’s DJ Pick of the Week, “Moment In The Sun” is a fun, upbeat love song. The song’s cheery guitar paired with a bright synth provides a complete mood-lift. Kivlen and Cumming’s vocals pair beautifully, creating a sweet and dreamy atmosphere. The lyrics in the chorus reflect this romantic energy: “I don’t need money, I don’t need to be cool. I’d trade it for a moment in the sun with you.” The track is the perfect hopeful song to listen to as we transition from summer to fall!
The band shared a bit about the meaning behind the song: “‘Moment In The Sun’ is about finally recognizing what is important in one’s life, the people you decide to spend it with.” With the craziness of 2020, the message of this song rings true more than ever.
Sunflower Bean put out a music video that encompasses the difficulty and beauty of the past several months. The band described the video as creating two separate worlds. Check out the stunning video below!
