Stephanie’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Love Song” by Lime Garden!
“Love Song” is the lead single off the band’s debut album One More Thing, set to release on February 16.
The members of Lime Garden have made music together since they were sixteen. Emerging in 2020, the four-piece band from Brighton has earned an engaged listenership through touring and consistent single releases.
Lime Garden has opened for artists like IDLES, The Big Moon, and Yard Act. Their debut album One More Thing features production by Ali Chant, who’s worked with PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius, and Yard Act.
The release of One More Thing has been highly anticipated in the indie-rock scene. The lead single “Love Song” is a sublime glimpse into the album’s direction.
“Love Song” begins with toe-tapping percussion and warbly riffs that echo the work of LCD Soundsystem. Chloe Howard’s indie-rock vocals are convincing.
In the track’s opening moments, Howard declares “You know that I love you, but this ain’t a love song.” Instead of focusing solely on a significant other, “Love Song” grapples with self-image. Its direct lyrics explore a desire to surrender to love despite feeling unworthy of it.
The bridge, backed by ethereal harmonies and building instrumentation, amps up the track’s bold vulnerability. Through the lines “As I cry, as I weep / I want you to know that you’re a part of me,” Howard explains that, despite her internal battles, the person she loves will remain close to her.
Candid self-expression and an irresistible groove make “Love Song” a standout track.
