“She’s Leaving You” is a rented Ferrari in Vegas weekend affair mid-life crisis critique. An endlessly catchy, scream along ready anthem for picking up the pieces, or even just being told to face the fact they’ve fallen at all.
Get ready to hear a lot about MJ Lenderman in the coming years. The indie-rock guitar hero has released his second single in support of the upcoming Manning Fireworks. Releasing September 6th, Lenderman’s ANTI- debut (but fourth album) is greatly anticipated as 2022’s Boat Songs was a smash hit.
MJ Lenderman is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from the mountain town of Ashville, North Carolina. You may have heard of his other gig as a member of indie-rock sensation Wednesday. His crunchy southern-rock influenced guitar style feels close to Pavement with a taste of Drive By Truckers.
Lenderman’s songs are easygoing but still poignant. Manning Fireworks is bound to be full of punchlines and guitar solos, just as fitting blasted loud as they are setting the mood in the background.
The Whitmer Thomas and Clay Tatum directed music video is a perfect accompaniment to the sneer of “She’s Leaving You.” Described by the directors as ““Creed Thanksgiving Half-Time Show” mixed with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” mixed with “Drop Dead Gorgeous”.”
