Steph’s DJ pick of the week is “Death Valley High” by Orville Peck and Beck.

If I was a betting man, I would never have put anything on Beck + Peck collab. Now that it’s here though, I can’t get enough. The diamond-encrusted dazzling duet takes listeners back to Vegas circa Elvis residency era. The two artists’ strengths are on full display and compliment each other well. Beck’s quirky, sample-based funk pop blows on the dice of Orville Peck’s 70’s retro country fiesta in another solid showing from Peck’s upcoming Stampede duets album.

If Elvis had ever seen a Casio, this is what he would have made. Percussive bleeps and bloops bounce along with full western brass and classic chicken-pickin licks. Lyrics with images of betting it all, rolling the dice, and the bright lights of Las Vegas bring that wild night energy that make this track electric.

The ninth release from Stampede, Orville Peck is further proving to be a force in the country world. Releasing August 2nd, 2024, Stampede is the queer icon’s third studio album. Other collaborations on the project include; Willie Nelson, Elton John, Midland, Noah Cyrus, Nathaniel Rateliff and more. The Peck/Nelson cover of Ned Sublette’s “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other” has an incredible music video and is another catchy hit that features an iconic pairing.

Orville Peck’s 6th Annual Rodeo is coming to Nashville on August 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Get your tickets now on the artist’s official website!

The Austin Peters directed music video is a spectacle to behold and perfectly compliments the already exciting track. Get your fill of Vegas glam and watch the video below!
