“Drugs” is a metaphor for the ups and downs of a relationship. Anarbor mentions the emotional roller coaster that can be compared in each situation. For example, they specifically mention “explosive emotions, comedowns, addiction, and desire for independence”. In addition to an incredibly interesting story, this song is undeniably catchy, groovy, and danceable.
