When alt rock sisters Meg and Dia Frampton disbanded their esteemed self-titled project in 2012, it seemed to fans like an unlikely end to a storied career. Beginning with country music covers and self-released EPs, the band broke out through close ties to MySpace founder Tom Anderson and custom-built Warped Tour stages. After meeting drummer Nick Price through a car accident, the duo recruited a backing band, incorporating punk and emo elements into their music. Finding massive success in Southeast Asia, where the group holds seven #1 hits, Meg & Dia collaborated and toured with legends in the alt-rock genre. Smash hit “Monster” brought them mainstream recognition from publications like Billboard and Forbes. Soon after, Dia won runner-up on The Voice, embarking on a solo career at the expense of the group. When Warped Tour announced it’s end in 2019, Meg & Dia returned with reunion performances and a surprise new full-length album. Newly independent, the sisters are back and better than ever. The band continues to expand their repertoire with a steady stream of singles. “Red” is their most recent.
In a time where catharsis seems to be in high demand, the sisters give us a hefty dose in “Red.” From start to finish, the track is overflowing with driving grooves and edgy, angular guitar work. Lyrically, the sisters channel sweet, sweet revenge. Seeing red and finding themselves teetering on the brink of control, the track is a perfect scream-in-the-car soundtrack for a much deserved headbang. The anthemic chorus gives “Red” an addicting edge. It’s a track that proves the sisters still possess their signature punk spirit while forging new ground in the genre.
