The month of January got 2016 kicked off to an awesome start with tons of music we’re excited about here at Lightning 100! Here are our top picks (in no particular order) for the month of January:

“The Love Within”*—Bloc Party

Bloc Party will be play Cannery Ballroom on May 23rd, presented by your friends here at Lightning 100!

“Lost Weekend”—Pete Yorn

One of our favorite artists here at Lightning 100, Pete Yorn was an obvious DJ pick for Jason Moon when we heard “Lost Weekend.” We couldn’t be more excited for his new album, due out March 11th!

“Hurtin’ (On The Bottle)”*—Margo Price

January was quite the month for Margo Price, who recently signed with Third Man Records here in Nashville. Margo was one of Adam’s favorite DJ picks of the month, and she even made her TV debut on Late Night with Stephen Colbert!

“Long May You Sail”—Simo

J.D. Simo’s virtuosic guitar playing has been dropping jaws around Nashville for quite some time, but when we heard “Long May You Sail,” we couldn’t have been more excited to make Simo our Local Artist of the Week! Hopefully you caught his epic set at Soulshine Pizza Factory with us!

“Confession”—M. Ward

M. Ward caught Lt Dan’s ear in January, and since he selected it as his DJ pick, we have to ‘confess’ that we love it too! M. Ward just played a spectacular sold out show at the Ryman with Jenny Lewis, too! Were you there for it? Let us know how it was in the comments below!

“Bring My Baby Back”—Dr. Dog

Don’t miss Dr. Dog when they return to the Ryman Auditorium for a Lightning 100-presented show on April 2nd!

“Crying in Public”—Chairlift

We hadn’t heard any new music from Chairlift since 2012, so when they released “Crying in Public,” we remembered just how much we’d missed them.

“Smoke and Sparks”—Grant-Lee Phillips

“Smoke and Sparks” was one of our favorite DJ picks that we found in January (props to Jason Moon for), and it makes us even happier to spin it knowing that Grant-Lee Phillips is a local Nashvillian!

“Pink Balloon”—Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals

Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals will be playing a sold out show at the Ryman Auditorium on April 22nd.

“Spirits”—The Strumbellas

“Spirits” was one of Jason Moon’s DJ picks, and since then has shot up on charts like the US Viral Top 50 with its infectious indie-folk march. We have to say, we’re hooked too.
