Lightning 100 announces Aaron Lee Tasjan as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week! Coming in strong at the top of the new year with his latest single, “Horror of it All” is a captivating listen.
Originally from Delaware, Tasjan developed his sound while moving all around the country before settling in Nashville. During his time in New York, Tasjan was recognized by Kevn Kenny of Drivin’ N’ Cryn’s who took him on tour and mentored him. This guidance led to his experimentation with the many different genres and music stylings that have defined his career thus far.
“Horror of it All” takes you on a multi-layered musical journey, perfectly showcasing Tasjan’s fearless sound explorations. The track opens with quintessential 80s synth-pop instrumentation before merging with modern alternative/psychedelic pop vocals at the start of the first verse. The singer delivers the title lyric “the horror of it all” in an impassioned exclamation that mirrors the anxious feelings of growing into yourself and showing that person to the world. However, rushing instrumentation and lyrical themes of bravery and self-acceptance in the chorus are a celebration of one’s own uniqueness. The song finishes as the title lyric repeats robotically, alternating between other spoken phrases and melodic themes, giving new life to the sections. The cinematic nature of the track makes for an exciting listen from start to finish.
