“Black Monday” by AHI is our ONErpm Hitmaker of the Week!
AHI (pronounced ‘eye’), a JUNO-nominated Canadian singer-songwriter, has continued to rise to the top of the folk scene since 2016. With colorful and bright acoustic instruments, his music is inspiring and captivating. The In Our Time EP put AHI on the map, showcasing his lyrical and composition skills. Then, his Prospect album found massive success, proving his consistency as an artist.
Since then, he has been featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk concert, CBS, and Billboard. Now, the breakout star has returned to continue his musical journey.
Produced in collaboration with Grammy-award-winning producer Rahki (Kendrick Lamar, Rejjie Snow), “Black Monday” is a joyous thematic lecture on life. His intense imagery paints a dark and harrowing scene, but he assures the audience of his footing. Spreading a message of unity, hope, and optimism, AHI urges his listeners to find the silver lining in situations.
This song features a strong percussion and vocal track. The drums (contributed by Rahki) are intense and grounded, while the layered vocals provide powerful and comforting melodic harmonies. Overall, the piece is quite raw and intimate, giving listeners the space to connect with AHI. This glass-half-full song is perfect for any pep talk or warmups around the corner.
