“Words,” by Big Thief is Stephanie’s DJ pick for this week. Formed in Brooklyn, Big Thief has been active on the Americana scene for a decade now. This track features up-tempo strumming guitars, an active baseline, blurry drums, and smooth vocal production. The electronic elements of this track compliment the unorthodox production to create an attention-demanding listening experience. Casey’s Thursday DJ Pick: Caroline Spence “Effortless”
Casey’s DJ pick for this week is “Effortless” by Caroline Spence. This track features an easy, yet driving feel. Brandi Carlile’s new acoustic hit off of her upcoming album of the same title, “Returning to Myself” is Rev’s DJ Pick this Friday! Carlile is a seasoned artist who is no stranger to the Nashville area, having played festivals like Bonnaroo and Pilgrimage and recorded at several local studios such as RCA Studio A. In recent years, Brandi Carlile has collaborated with iconic artists like Joni Mitchell and Elton John. This new album, as the title suggests, is a return to herself and her own body of work. Carlile is quickly becoming a powerhouse in the music industry, and “Returning to Myself” is the kind of track to back up that claim. Universally relatable lyrics are backed up with Carlile’s powerful vocals and a simple, but effective acoustic guitar.
