If one thing’s for sure, Kenny Sharp knows how to write a fun song. “Smooth” possesses the soul of 70s funk with a cleaner and more modern sounding production. The rhythmic guitar line is groovy, and Sharp’s vocals are powerful with that timeless R&B grit. While Sharp now writes primarily in the soul and R&B genres, he started his career as a rapper. There exists a hint of this history in the way his lyrics glide out from his mouth into the song. The track’s rhythmic flow is fun, unique, and similar to that of a rap song.
Sharp takes pride in his storytelling ability within his lyricism. His raw vocal delivery paired with this skill set draws out the emotions in every one of his songs.
