Steph’s DJ Pick of the Week this week is “Ohio All The Time” by Momma!
Momma is a Brooklyn band of four rising up in the indie rock scene. They have opened for stellar names such as Beabadoobee, Girl In Red, and St. Vincent. The band has had other successful honors such as playing a co-headline show with Blondshell as a part of Spotify’s MARROW presents showcase, a live studio session on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Night Show, and making their Coachella debut in 2023. The group consists of members Etta Friedman, Allegra Weingarten, Aron Kobayashi Ritch, and Preston Fulks. Like most great bands, it began with two friends and their shared love for music. In this case, the band’s singers Allegra and Etta met in high school and began jamming and developing their sound together.
The group wrote “Ohio All The Time” about a summer the band spent on tour when their careers took off right before their eyes. The track is cheerful and jovial, reminiscing on the feeling of being young and free. There’s nothing like summer time in your 20s. The adolescent spark still fueling the fire but with the abilities to go where you want and do what you want as a proper adult. That’s the energy that “Ohio All The Time” gives. The song is a stunning addition to the alt-pop genre, and it’s fun upbeat nature makes the track addicting to listen to.
