Rev’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Lonely Road” by Phillip Micheal Scales!
Phillip began his musical journey very young, and unbeknownst to him had a close personal tie to the blues genre. His close family friend lived a double life as his sweet Uncle B and also famous singer and guitarist B.B. King. He first learned to play the guitar and later in life fell in love with the art of songwriting. He started out in the indie music scene- and when B.B. King passed decided to give his music more of a “blues” sound to honor his uncle.
“Lonely Road” starts off with a rock esque guitar riff and funky synth. Phillip’s vocals are smooth and soulful, they definitely would make his Uncle B proud. He describes his music as “Dive Bar Soul”, which takes the storytelling of indie music and combines it with the passion of blues. The track has an emotional build and gets more intense as it goes on. It finishes with a gorgeous guitar riff and ad libbing from Phillip. The song has passion, a clear message, and a hard hitting rock flare to back it all up.
