“Dogfights” is this week’s ONErpm Hitmaker Alert! Based in Charleston, South Carolina, Whitehall was formed in a college dorm in 2014. The band consists of four members including Paddy McKiernan (vocals/guitar), Avery Greeson (guitar), Brennan Clark (bass), and Davis Rowe (drums). With a unique sound ranging from EDM to folk, Whitehall uplifts and enlivens their audience no matter the genre. Touring with The Goo Goo Dolls last fall, Whitehall displays just the right amount of humor, experimentation, and energy in their music and performances. Released on February 10, 2023, “Dogfights” is indie-rock perfection. With power chords and guitar distortion amplifying the rock aspect, soft vocals and harmonies counteract to add a hint of indie. Whitehall characterizes the song as being “all about chaos.” They go on to say, “The lyrics weave through a messy cluster of feelings, dreams, and daily habits that feel a little sporadic as I try to assign them meaning and simplify them by “break[ing] it down in boxes.” If you’re someone who’s still figuring everything out, you’ll definitely love “Dogfights.”
