But coming nearly a decade after her last record, it seem’s Young Summer as truly come into her own both sonically and lyrically on her most recent album. One of the songs from the album, “If The World Falls To Pieces” has amassed an impressive 4.9 millions streams to date, and that’s just on Spotify. Now the Nashville-based artist has released a deluxe version of the album that includes two brand new songs along with two stripped-down versions of existing songs.
The star of the bunch is the cut “Closer To You”. The song is an airy dream on a groovy bassline. The ‘verbed out vocals float across the track as the chorus loses itself in a daydream with the lyrics, “Dancing / Wondering what it’d be like next to you / Spinning / Floating with your shadow round my room / With each step / I get closer to you”. Summer’s ability to match her words to the instrumentation and melody of the song truly elevates this track beyond the casual throw-away nature of many deluxe album add-ons.
