Jayson’s DJ Pick of the Week
A longtime favorite of the station, indie rock group Dawes just dropped the first single off of their newest nine track album to give their listeners a sneak peak of what’s to come on October 2, 2020. The band’s 7th album, Good Luck With Whatever, was recorded in Nashville’s historic RCA studio with the help of Dave Cobb (because its Nashville, and what great bands DON’T work with Dave?). The musician’s describe this album to be “a cumulation of their entire catalogue and career all wrapped up in nine tracks.” Sounds pretty promising, right? The next two months are going to go by SO slow until the entire album releases, but don’t worry, we’ll be spinning “Who Do You Think You’re Talking To?” until then.
“Who Do You Think You’re Talking To?” starts off with a simple but captivating drum beat. Taylor Goldsmith’s voice comes in almost immediately, and the sparse instrumentation really allow the listener to hear and process what Goldsmith is singing and the meaning behind it. The band wrote that their new song “is about the way we bring our past with us as we move away from traumatic experiences and relationships.” They said that this was the first time they’ve ventured into certain grooves for their tunes, and they had fun pushing themselves to see what they could get away with. And we’re so glad they did! The newest single is a hit, and we can’t wait to have it in rotation at 100.1 FM.
