“Wild Blue” is the latest single from John Mayer‘s newest album Sob Rock, not to mention it’s Rev’s DJ Pick of the Week! With a deep base guitar at the forefront of the sound, Mayer sings about self discovery after the ending of a relationship. As melancholy as “Wild Blue” might make one feel, the accompanying music video is quite the contrast! With a pointedly cheap green screen and a medley of translucent colors, an edgy psychedelic scene is presented. As a snazzy looking Mayer in a trench coat and tortoiseshell sunglasses floats through the sky.
This characteristic individuality behind the music and the video itself was no luck of the draw! Mayer has always appreciated the unique, recently Rolling Stone quoted an interview between Mayer and Zane Lowe for AppleMusic1. Wherein Mayer addresses the unique album name, Sob Rock and the music behind it. “This one’s called Sob Rock because you just would never have imagined that was the name of the record. And I’m going to go so deep into my fantasy. I live, half of me is in this fantasy all the time now, especially as I’m watching the promo stuff come together.”.
Sob Rock is Mayer’s newest studio album since 2017, and the wait definitely seems to have been worth it! And for all you concert fans, “Wild Blue” and other new favorites will certainly be available to experience live. As Mayer recently announced plans for a North American tour in support of Sob Rock, kicking off next year.
