This album is the third cover collection by Cat Power, covering a broad variety of genres. Included in the track list for this release are Frank Ocean, Dead Man’s Bones, and The Replacements. “Against The Wind” is a cover of the 1980 track by Bob Seger.
Cat Power, aka Chan Marshall, contributes heavily to a conversation in music that fuses many genres and generations, and this new album is no exception. Speaking about the album, Marshall notes, “When I do covers, I feel such a responsibility to the artists I love—some I’ve never met, some I have”. Given the widespread praise for Covers, it seems that she has done these original artists plenty of justice. In fact, the album has accrued praise from publications such as Variety, The New Yorker, and Pitchfork.
In celebration of this new album, Cat Power will embark on a world tour beginning in April. This tour includes one stop at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville on August 1st.
