Rev. Keith’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Hurts (But It Goes Away)” by The Head And The Heart! The Head And The Heart is a six-piece indie rock/folk group based out of Seattle, Washington. The group formed in 2009 after members met and became friends through a local pub’s open mic nights. Now, nearly thirteen years and six studio albums later, guitarist Johnathan Russel says he feels as though the band is finally a cohesive unit with their latest release. Other band members include Charity Rose Thielen, Matt Gervais, Chris Zasche, Kenny Hensley, and Tyler Williams.

“Hurts (But It Goes Away)” is the sixth track off The Head And The Heart’s latest album, Every Shade of Blue. This song is a lively, energetic piece that quickly builds its layers into explosive choruses. The lyrics grapple with the struggle of change and questioning that everything will be okay. Charity Rose Thielen of the group says that the album is “representative of the diverse voices in the band that are so unique and different and sometimes even opposing.” The band also worked with more pop-oriented producers for the project, working with those who’ve produced for big-name pop acts like Sia, P!nk, and Florence and the Machine.
