Stephanie’s DJ Pick this week is “Behaviour” by Glove! This futuristic-sounding track dropped in 2021 as the second single off the band’s 2022 album Boom Nights.
The Tampa-based post-punk band consists of Brie Deux (vocals, drums), Rod Wendt (guitar), and Justin Burns (vocals, bass). Inspired by artists like The Kills, Wire, and Joy Division, Glove was formed in 2017. The band quickly began touring across the country before releasing their own music, steadily building an audience along the way. Following the release of their debut single “Enervate” in 2019, Glove began generating real buzz. Having played both Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival, the band has found huge success already, including going on tour with Jack White of The White Stripes.
“Behaviour” is an ‘angular backbend towards the heyday of alt-pop dance synthesis’, with the production exploring 80’s influences on their signature darkwave and synth-pop sound. Lyrically, the song examines the human nature of conformity when it comes to society’s expectations. The hook, “Behaviour / Behave as you’re told” is accentuated by neoteric synth melodies and electrifying guitar riffs. Overall, the tune is an ode to rebellion, blending dark pop with an array of experimental, psychedelic synth sounds.
