Steph’s DJ pick of the week is “Dancer” by IDLES. The song released on October 16th, and it’s the first single from their forthcoming alum TANGK.
IDLES rips into “Dancer” with the audacity of a newly signed band, building excitement with bass and guitar licks. Still, they perform with the experience of a group making their well-earned fifth album. Striking a perfect balance of loose improvisation and tight performance, IDLES has certainly given fans a reason to eagerly await their album’s February 16th release. With backup vocals from LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and Nancy Whang, the choruses are full and bold.
“I give myself to you as long as we move on the floor,” frontman Joseph Talbot sings, just before that booming chorus begins. It’s a lyric from a singer (and band) who are determined to have a good time. Acting as a double-entendre, it addresses both the romantic themes of the song and the crowds in attendance at their shows. IDLES is ready to dance “hip to hip, cheek to cheek.” Are you?
