For this week’s Frothy Monkey Artist of the Week, we’re showcasing Okey Dokey with their new single, “Late Riser”. The group consists of Johny Fisher and Aaron Martin. The two who briefly collaborated in a group called Sol Cat back in 2013. After Martin left to focus on art-related projects, they came together again a few years later to create music. Eventually they released their debut album Love You, Mean It in 2017. Since then, they have released three more albums and are considered veterans of the local indie scene.

The song “Late Riser” strikes a balance between the sounds of MGMT, Tame Impala, and Wallows. It features falsetto, harmonies, and instrumentals that expand as the song continues. The track is a laid-back and dreamy tune that features a groovy bassline, shimmering synths, and lush vocal harmonies. Creating a cool, calm, and collected feel embodying a whimsical and atmospheric vibe. Lyrically the song convey a sense of restlessness, reflecting on the emotions of waking up on the wrong side of the bed. It exposes a sense of longing for purpose and direction that potentially comes with being an early riser. Overall the song showcases the local group’s talent for blending retro and contemporary sounds into a unique and captivating musical style.
