“Sunshine Getaway” by JD McPherson is Jayson’s DJ Pick of the week!
McPherson debuted his single, “Sunshine Getaway”, just last week to announce his forthcoming album NITE OWLS, out September 27th. The album announcement also came with news of a headlining NITE OWLS tour with support from Kate Clover. The tour kicks off on September 27th at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville.
This will be the first album McPherson has released in seven years (not including his 2018 Christmas album SOCKS). He’s been on the road for the past three years, touring with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. McPherson is finally settling in to focus on his solo music, and fans couldn’t be happier.
This song is groovy and fun, making us all pine for a “Sunshine Getaway”. McPherson’s signature rock ‘n roll sound comes alive to the upbeat tempo and his iconic guitar. Here’s your warning, this catchy tune will get stuck in your head. Whether this single has you tapping your foot or dancing around your living room, go on and celebrate because McPherson is back.
McPherson revealed to Variety that the inspiration for the track was the bitter cold of Midwest winters. While visiting his friends Jack and Page (from The Cactus Blossoms), they shared a funny story about being locked outside in the Minnesota wintertime. After that, the friends sat down, wrote the song, and brought “Sunshine Getaway” to life. This single perfectly captures that seasonal feeling: yearning for a tropical escape in the dead of winter.
