Rev’s DJ pick of the week is “Dance With a Stranger” by Lake Street Dive!
Lake Street Dive is the renowned, eclectic, five piece ensemble that formed out of Boston twenty years ago. Rachael Price, Bridget Kearney, Mike Calabrese, Akie Bermiss, and James Cornelison make up the quintessential pop group. They’ve been redefining the genre for years with their innovative blend of jazz, pop, soul, and folk.
Now, they’re back with another uplifting and groovy sensation of an album. On June 21st, the band released Good Together, their sixth studio album. They took a different approach to writing this album, focusing more on writing together. Previously, they tended to write separately and bring their individual work to the table. In addition, a twenty sided die helped decide the chord, tempo, and meter for each song. This interesting new approach was refreshing for the band and made this new album one of their best.
“Dance With a Stranger” is a call to reach out to someone new. This inspiring tune is all about community and human kindness. Urging you to “Open up your whole heart” and share the love with those around you. The group hopes that this positive beat can foster connection at their shows and beyond.
They just played at Ascend Amphitheater on July 13th and recently departed on “The Good Together Tour”. Catch them on the road and you may be one of the lucky “strangers” they bring on stage for “Dance With a Stranger”.
