Dan’s DJ pick of the week is “You’re So Impatient” by Pixies!

The legendary Pixies have become a pivotal group in the alt-indie/rock movement since the 80s, inspiring other legendary minds such as those of Nirvana, Weezer, and Radiohead. Notable pieces from their discography include the album 1988 Surfer Rosa and Bossanova. The iconic group has returned with their new single “You’re So Impatient”.

Today’s band members consist of returning members Black Francis, David Lovering, Joey Santiago, and a new addition on bass/backing vocals Emma Richardson who got her started Band of Skulls.

This title track is part of an EP that is accompanied by another track, “Que Sera Sera”, an ode to the band’s Spanish roots.

Pixie’s “You’re So Impatient” leans more into the rock-n’-roll sound. The song features chugging bass, distorted crunched guitars, tight punchy drums, and Francis’ raspy voice. This song is upbeat and exciting, directly contrasting the other song of this EP. The lyrical work of the song focuses on the back and forth of a relationship. Using a mall theater as the setting, Pixies use the awkwardness and tension of first movie dates to convey the feeling of uneasiness in a young toxic relationship.
