This week’s Lightning 100 Local Artist of the Week is Cherry Vance, with their song “try you again!”
Cherry Vance formed in late 2024, and consists of sisters Liv and Gigi Haynes, Jude Maloy, and Dom Toso. Liv and Gigi have been playing together almost their whole life, and played on the 2018 Vans Warped Tour, the youngest act alongside Blink-182 and Good Charlotte. Additionally, they’ve opened for acts like Simple Plan and Bowling for Soup. The band performed at Bonnaroo in June, and only released their first official single, “better,” in August. Since then, they’ve been rising as a local favorite, notably putting on very high-energy shows.
The band has developed their sound on elements such as pop-punk and alternative rock. Their newest release, “try you again,” heavily leans into their alternative side. It’s a goosebump inducing, slow song about the longing for a past relationship, while watching their former partner succeed. Lines like “heard that you’re working on your PHD, I think that’s pretty dope, honestly,” is her said admission of her partners success, while lyrics like “I’ll try you again, call me back when you can” highlight how she desperately wants him to call her back.
Tune in to 100.1 FM and lightning100.com to hear “try you again” by Cherry Vance, our Local Artist of the Week!
