“Bounce House” by Gelli Haha is Steph’s DJ pick of the week!
L.A.-based artist Gelli Haha has just hit the scene with the release of her debut single. Boasting a catchy bass riff, digital art-pop style synths, and whimsical samples, “Bounce House” brings a joyful and innocent energy to the current stream of releases. Think animated, bubbly, robotic; the sonic equivalent of a candy store.
The song kicks off with a repetitive bass line, punchy drums, and claps instantly placing us in a dancey 80s disco. About halfway through, a fresh bassline enters and propels the song forward with a cut-time groove. This shift of energy keeps things upbeat while giving it a brand new feel. Playful vocal textures–reminiscent of kids talking–fill the stereo field. The pitches continue to get higher as they shift into completely manipulated waveforms by analog effects. Gelli Haha cuts no corners when it comes to making a playful and unconventional groove.
Gelli Haha has been gearing up for a major album release later this year. Keep an ear out for what’s next but until then, dive into the colorful world of “Bounce House” below.
