Our Frothy Monkey‘s local artist of the week is Judy Blank with single “Dinosaurs”!
Coming from Utrecht, The Netherlands, Judy Blank has brought an enchanting musical presence to Nashville. Whether it’s the indie garage rock sound or the soulful tunes inspired by the 1960’s, Judy Blank is sure to pull you in with her writing. From iconic Hollywood scores to some of the best storytelling of the time, Blank was inspired by the artistic value of classic American films at an early age. At nineteen, she traversed across the pond to begin her musical journey in the United States. Blank played shows around New Orleans before traveling to Nashville to record her debut album Morning Sun. She began to grow a major platform for herself by this point. Consequently, this led to her streaming success and a Gold Award in The Netherlands.
Shortly after this high point in her career, she experienced intense struggles that led her to self-produce her latest EP, Saddies. Judy is continuing to grow as an artist, writing in greater depth about her personal stories. In this way, she makes it relatable and digestible for her fans.
Most recently, Judy has released “Dinosaurs”, a warm and laid-back track with hints of americana-folk artistry. Soaked in vibrato, the guitars innocently strum along with a vintage drum machine groove. Judy’s dreamy vocals fall perfectly in the mix with her longing lyricism, nostalgic for simpler times and feeling out of place in a modern world. A short track, “Dinosaurs” leaves us feeling comforted knowing this is a thought that nobody is alone in!
January 2024 marked Judy Blank’s official move to Nashville and has been working on her second album. This city is more than ready for a new album from Judy. Until then, check out the music video below and listen for “Dinosaurs” on Lightning 100!
