Casey here with my DJ pick of the week from The Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde. “How Glad I Am” was originally written by Jimmy Williams and Larry Harrison and was made popular by Nancy Wilson. Hynde’s version appears on her new record Valve Bone Woe.
Hynde said of the new record, “A few years back when I saw an obit in the paper for the valve-trombonist, Bob Brookmeyer, I mailed my jazz sax-playing brother, saying ‘R. I. P. Bob Brookmeyer.’ Terry, a man of few words, responded with ‘Valve Bone Woe,’ a kind of Haiku beatnik prose.”
Listen to “How Glad I Am” below and let us know what you think!
