Casey’s DJ pick of the week is “Money on the Table” by Country Westerns. Signed with Fat Possum Records, the group labels themselves as a “rock and roll music nightclub act.” Produced by Matt Sweeney, the song is the latest from the band.
Each member has an extensive artistic past. The band is led by Joey Plunkett, former member of New York bands, The Weight and Gentleman Jesse. Drummer, Brian Kotzur, was a member of the Silver Jews and composed the score to the film, Trash Humpers. In 2019, the trio was completed with bassist, Sabrina Rush. Also a violinist for State Champion, Rush has a background as a prominent tour manager. The members’ eclectic pasts filter in through their creativity as a group. “Money on the Table” is gritty, raw, and poetic, staying true to the foundational components their artistry.
