Casey’s DJ pick this week is “Find Your People” by Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors! This folk-Americana tune just dropped last week as a single off the band’s forthcoming album, set to release June 7th.
Growing up in Memphis with influences like Bob Dylan and James Taylor, Holcomb has always found himself immersed in music. As a kid, he found himself playing local gigs in bars singing cover songs of the classic 70’s artists. After attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, he moved to Nashville to pursue his own music career. Originally a solo act, he became a successful bandleader after forming Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors in the late 2000s.
Holcomb & The Neighbors quickly began to draw an audience around Nashville, finding chart success in 2013 with his album Good Light, and again in 2015 with Medicine. Following two albums that had charted in the top 200, they released Live At The Ryman in 2016. This album was recorded during their first appearance at Music City’s legendary Ryman Auditorium, which they eventually sold out. Since then, the band has gone on to have a song featured in an Emmy-winning NBA campaign for TNT, a placement in CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, and have launched their own music festival.
“Find Your People” is a refreshing blend of folk, Americana, and country; with rhythmic acoustic guitar and banjo riffs leaving listeners comforted by this ode to togetherness. Lyrically, Holcomb celebrates the friendship created throughout his career with his bandmates and honors human connection after the isolating pandemic. The singer expresses, “Life is hard. It’s a lot harder when you go it alone. ‘Find Your People’ is a folk anthem about how we need each other. Part of the river of this record is about how to navigate the chaos of economic uncertainty, family drama, political division, and the general untethering that so many of us feel.”
