Hailing from Austin, Texas, Sir Woman is a force of funky nature. The solo project by vocalist Kelsey Wilson from Wild Child and Glorietta has quickly become beloved in the industry. Sir Woman first appeared on the scene in 2019, with both of their singles finding massive success. Since then, they have continued as one of the most powerful voices in the re-emerging alternative-soul genre.
Their new single, “Never Gonna Give Me Up” continues their bright legacy. Introducing a whole new universe in their music, this track is part of a twin release, with two albums named, If It All Works Out and If It Doesn’t. “Never Gonna Give Me Up” is part of the If It Doesn’t album, exploring the termoil of failed long-term relationships.
The track doesn’t sugarcoat a thing. Instead, you are told over and over again the problems and wants that have gone unresolved. The subject of the song has abused its author’s loyalty by not valuing their pleas. Although the lyrics suggest there is still some empathy left for the subject, the overall tone of the song is frustration and disappointment. “I never wanted to be bitter / You know I gave you all I had / And even though I’ll always love you / You take away more than you add”
