This week Dan’s DJ pick is “Audacious” by Franz Ferdinand!

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand catapulted the first major world war. The band Franz Ferdinand has catapulted itself into success in the alternative rock genre. The Glasgow, Scotland based group’s seen success with several GRAMMY nominations as well as two Brit awards- Best British Group and Best Rock Act in 2005. Their recent single comes in preparation for the group’s sixth studio album, The Human Fear.

“Audacious” confronts the listener to challenge the most human fear of them all- existential dread. “But don’t stop feeling audacious, there’s no one to save us so just carry on”. Sometimes peace can be found in knowing there’s nothing else to be done. Acceptance and an optimistic outlook can do wonders for the fearful mind.

The song sounds as if it came straight out of a 1970s cartoon field of flowers and rainbows. The crunchy guitar riffs and flittering piano melody give the song its rock and roll characteristics. Yet they aren’t dark and grungy, but happy and upbeat. The song is colorful and joyous despite being centered around fear.

On September 11th, 2024 Franz Ferdinand released a music video for “Audacious” starring the band members rocking out in bright colors, surrounded by flowers and bunnies, and playing Guitar Hero. Check it out below!
