Our DJ’s selected a rockin’ batch of picks this week, from punk to psych, you’re sure to find a new favorite.
Jay’s Monday Pick- ZDAN “save me (rock n roll)”
Jayson started off the week with a punk reminiscent single by Canadian rock artist, ZDAN. “save me (rock n roll)” is an anthem worthy of chanting at an early CBGBs show, with the simple but definitive repetition of “rock n roll, rock n roll, rock n roll” bringing together the fuzzy guitar and driving rhythm. Now based in Nashville, ZDAN- a modern guitar hero- released this latest single a few weeks ago. With her full album releasing on November 7th, get ahead of the curve and listen to “save me” below!
Dan’s Tuesday Pick- ISTA “Waves”
Dan’s pick is the latest single from the Brooklyn-based band, ISTA. “Waves” is psychedelic in nature and finds a balance between rock and disco with grooving bass and soaring synthesizers. The dueling male and female lead vocals give it layers leading into a fuzzy guitar solo that transitions the song into a grunged-out dreamy end. Give Waves a listen below, and catch the artistic music video too.
Stephanie’s Wednesday Pick- Work Wife “Big Parking Lot”
Stephanie’s pick for this week is “Big Parking Lot” by Work Wife. Meredith Lampe, the singer/guitarist behind Work Wife has a unique voice with an air of casualness. That voice delivers an honest heartbreaking song in a way that lets you down easy. With smooth bluesy riffs and bluegrass inspired picking over a stacked lead vocal, Work Wife’s style doesn’t fit in a box. However, the feeling this sound invokes is nostalgic while remaining fresh. Give “Big Parking Lot” a listen below!
Casey’s Thursday Pick- Thom Chapman “Lucy Hides”
Casey chooses Lucy Hides by Thom Chapman as his DJ pick of this week. DJ Casey focuses on local artists for his picks, and Chapman’s “Lucy Hides” jumped out at him this week as part of the 615 Local Show. An indie pop song with tones of psych rock, Thom Chapman carries on the tradition of great songs with women’s names. This lucid lyric lays over an upbeat backdrop that keeps you swaying. Spin Thom Chapman’s latest below!
Rev’s Friday Pick- Amanda Shires “Piece of Mind”
Rev ends the week with a recently released bluesy rocker by Amanda Shires. This West Texas legend is a member of the modern supergroup, The Highwomen. A superstar in her own right, Shires continues her successful solo career with the upcoming release of her 8th studio album, Nobody’s Girl. “Piece of Mind” is the second single revealed from the album. This song is drenched in great riffs on the guitar and fiddle, and is brought home by Amanda Shire’s signature raspy tone. Listen along at the link below!
