This week’s Lightning 100 pick for Local Artist of the Week is the artist Eva Cassel, with her song “Slow Death“!
Eva Cassel grew up in California, and has been playing music since her earliest memories, even performing for her stuffed animals when no one was around. This inspired her to attend Berklee College of Music, graduating with a Songwriting degree, before moving to Nashville. She released her first single, “Nothing,” in 2019, which served as the opening track for her debut EP, Spaces You Crawl In Between, released in 2020. Throughout her career, Cassel has toured and shared the stage with artists such as John Mayer and Neil Young.
Musically, she explores a variety of genres, such as alternative, folk, and pop. Her new single, “Slow Death,” combines these genres, along with her lively vocals and a springy melody. Cassel sings, “how could you cry like that, turn around and leave so fast?” showcasing the heavy confusion that comes with denial. This confusion is like a heavy winter storm that produces lots of snow, and then quickly ending and going away. “Slow Death” is featured on her upcoming album of the same name, which is set to be released on November 13th.
