This week’s Lightning 100 Local Artist of the Week is Macy Todd, with her track “luckiest girl alive!”
Fresh off the release of her 2026 EP, “pretty ruthless”, Nashville based Americana artist, Macy Todd, was quick to follow it up with her new single “luckiest girl alive.”
On this track, Todd sings to the relief that can come from heartbreak, proving that not getting what you want, can lead to what you may need.
“My dreams went up in flames. What a sweet relief. I’m the luckiest girl alive” Todd sings.
For Todd, rejection isn’t a setback, it’s redirection. In this track, Todd gives listeners reassurance that it’s okay to not get it right the first time, reminding them to take it easy and let life pan out the way it’s supposed to. Whether this be advice for heartbreak, success, or other forms of life’s obstacles, Todd highlights the growth that can come from pain. Backed by rhythmic drum and guitar, Todd and her band sing in soulful tandem, stringing in elements of Americana and soul-pop, pulling listeners into her own world.
Currently, Todd is signed to Atlantic Outpost. For years, she felt apprehensive about signing to major record label, because she didn’t want to lose control of her creative freedom. After signing to Atlantic Outpost, she was able to maintain agency over her sound while also pushing her career forward.
For Todd, one of the most important aspects of her musicianship is her relationship to her producer Jon Joseph. She credits their connection to her abilty to create music as freeely as she does. Together they have written dozens of tracks, and will continue to do so for as long as they’re able. When Todd began having conversations with various record labels, one of the most important things to her was ensuring that she would be able to maintain her creative partnership with Joseph- a committment Atlantic Outpost has fully supported.
Currently, Todd is on tour, opening for Willow Avalon, across North America. Be sure to check out @macytodd on instagram and her website to stay up to date on upcoming tour dates and album releases!
