Our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of The Week is Semisweet with her song “Code Red” here on Lightning 100!
Cailey Norris, the Dallas-born singer-songwriter behind Semisweet, has been in Nashville since she studied songwriting at Belmont University. Out of college in 2020, she released her debut EP under her given name, but has since rebranded as Semisweet. The new project includes the self-titled EP Semisweet featuring 5 evocative alt-rock tracks, the lead single being “Code Red.”
Norris calls the EP, “A nod to 90s grunge, but in the age of situationships.” Our Local Artist pick this week, “Code Red” is an upbeat groove with crunchy guitar hooks reminiscent of Veruca Salt and Hole. The punchy lyrics have a similar powerful effect to those of the aforementioned bands. However, Semisweet writes with an updated twist for a new demographic.

“Okay so this is what we trained for// Okay so this is code red// You came in swinging through the front door// And I ducked and I rolled and I said//Hit me again”
Cailey Norris and her band have two shows coming up at some local favorite spots. This Tuesday, September 30th, Semisweet takes the stage at the original Basement for New Faces Night. Then a few weeks later, the band will be doing fellow local artists Maddy Ferri, Cara Madaris, and Boy Orbison at The Five Spot. Be sure to catch a live show and hear the new EP played in person! Check out “Code Red” below and tune in to Lightning 100 all week to listen to Semisweet’s new single.
