One of Nashville’s hottest new social enterprises, The Nashville Blanket Project, was started by the husband and wife team, Marissa and Chris Barrett. Marissa had previously founded Novel Creature, a hobby turned full-blown accessory brand that included hiking meetups led by Marissa.
During the hiking meetups, Mexican blankets had become a popular staple for warmth and comfort among the members. So when Marissa saw a local non-profit asking specifically for blankets, she teamed up with her husband, Chris, to create a “buy one, give one” social enterprise.
Just like that, The Nashville Blanket Project was founded. Their project has expanded from helping the Nashville homeless population to now donating their blankets to Living for Everything, a non-profit that provides care packages to families fighting childhood cancer. To date, they have given away more than 1,000 blankets.
“We came up with the slogan, ‘Giving to a neighbor in need’ and it works in a lot bigger context than we initially anticipated.”
