This week’s local artist spotlight goes to Maggie Rose. This music city mogul got her start in New Jersey, sneaking into bars underages to sing Springsteen covers. As the years have gone on, Maggie Rose has done some amazing things in the music industry. Her soulful voice blends country and R&B in a harmonious way that’s not only unique but addicting. Each of her songs has a different genre-bending flare that tells a narrative story, reminiscent of original old country roots. Rose is truly a powerhouse with some impressive performances under her belt like Bonnaroo, CMA Fest, Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France, and even The Grand Ole Opry.
It is no secrete that musicians everywhere are struggling in the midst of COVID-19. Especially breakout sensations like Maggie Rose, but she used this time to create something beautiful amid this disaster of a year. The subject of our affection this week is her brand new song, “20/20”. This ballad starts with a beautiful combination of her melodic voice and soft piano notes. Still, as the song continues, it builds to a crazy mix of violin, guitar, and background vocalists. This tune holds a compelling message and really translates the frustration and fear of this never-ending year.
Rose says this about her newest single, “I couldn’t see the tornado coming…. It has been exactly six months since the tornado hit Nashville. We all know that 2020 has been an absolute sh*t show for most everyone, but in the midst of all this chaos, there have been those special moments where we’ve been able to use that fertilizer and make beautiful things grow.”
Despite the agony of 2020, at least we still get relief from the madness with new and heartfelt songs like “20/20”. This single is off of her latest EP, Quarantine 45. “20/20” is on side A of this EP, but she’s got another single in the works dropping on September 18th, titled “Only Human (I Wanna Get Out).” Keep an eye out for her newest single and continue listening to our favorite track of the week, “20/20”. This song really hits home because it collectively tackles the emotional rollercoaster we all feel, even though we’ve never been more alone.
We’ll be playing “20/20” throughout the week as we feature Maggie Rose as our Local Artist of the Week. Catch it live on-air at 100.1FM on your dial or streaming live at lightning100.com.
