We’re proud to announce Mat Kearney as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week! The Nashville based artist is back from hiatus with his new single “Headlights Home”.
Ever since he moved to Nashville, Mat Kearney has been making waves in the industry. The success of his two first albums Bullet and Nothing Left to Lose in 2004 and 2006 put him on the map as an artist with a unique sound. Blending sounds of hip hop and folk-pop, Mat has graced listeners with his emotional melodies and introspective lyrics.
After 3 years since his last studio album, “Headlights Home” is part of Mat Kearney’s, self-titled 8th studio album Mat Kearney, that came out May 15th.
“Headlights Home” tells the story of someone who yearns to get back home to their lover. The song opens with “I crack a smile but I’m bleeding inside Rack up the miles leaving you behind”. The narrator puts on the brave face as he chases a dream, despite the fact that he has to be apart from the one he loves. Revolving around the chorus, “Leave the light on for me”, “Dying to get back to Tennessee”, “Taking these headlights home”. Kearny is hopeful the headlights will bring him back home.
Melodically, the catchy tune sticks in your head while the instruments expand for a crescendo ending. Whether it’s the dead of winter or a hot summer day, this song can put you in the mood of love. We look forward to where Mat Kearney is headed after this release.
