Tim McNary is Lightning 100’s local artist of the week! McNary is an indie folk singer-songwriter who released his third album, Loose Leaf, back in October. McNary states on his website that Loose Leaf “touches on themes of human connection and isolation.” The album includes his song “So Soon,” which was written and performed by McNary. The song also features instrumentation by Nashville producer John Estes.
“So Soon” opens with gently strummed guitars and subtle percussion. McNary’s lead vocal enters and is soon joined by sweeping background vocals that fill out the song’s arrangement. There is a warm, soothing quality to McNary’s vocals, which is especially prevalent as he harmonizes with himself. Thematically, the song’s lyrics express a desire to remain in a beautiful moment. “I don’t want to end it so soon,” McNary sings, longing to stay and enjoy the experience rather than having to let it go.
