Stephanie’s pick this week is “Can’t Wait To Be Dead” by FINNEAS!
FINNEAS is Billie Eilish’s older brother and producer. The two have worked together on almost all of her music, but he also makes music of his own. “Can’t Wait To Be Dead” comes as his latest release. The track was written in quarantine along with his previous release, “What They’ll Say About Us.”
In a press statement about the song, FINNEAS says, “I’m happy for this song to mean anything to anyone who listens to it but to me, it’s a song about my relationship with the Internet, especially in an election year. Especially during a pandemic. Sometimes, the internet makes me laugh, sometimes it makes me cry, sometimes it makes me hopeful. But sometimes, it really makes me wanna be dead.”
As bleak as it sounds, it’s a feeling a lot of people can relate to. The production on the song is done really well, but that is no surprise considering the fact that it is FINNEAS’ strong suit. It is a lot of simple guitar and drums with layers of his vocals on top.
He sings about his frustration with race issues and the political climate in the United States. This is not the first time FINNEAS has used his music career to speak out about injustice. His single “What They’ll Say About Us” was written in support of recent Black Lives Matter Protests.
FINNEAS released a music video along with the song. Check it out here:
