“Don’t Take It Out On Me” by The Privates is Casey’s DJ Pick of the Week!
Formed in 2003, The Privates are a hard rock band based in Nashville, Tennesse. Riding the wave of the post-punk takeover, they smashed and thrashed their way to hometown hero status.
Although they found local success; as great musicians, they were quickly picked off individually for other projects. In 2010 the group went on hiatus, and members of the band went on to perform with other established bands, such as The Features and The Pink Spiders. The Privates continued to stay in the dark, minus a small 10th-anniversary show in 2013.
This track “Don’t Take It Out On Me”, is energetic and magnetic. You are able to hear the excitement from the band radiating through the record. Distorted screaming guitars contrast against fiery chaotic drums, and are paired with the quintessential early 2000’s vocals. It is hard not to put your kids up and open the pit when listening.
2023 marked the band’s 20th anniversary since their first show. To celebrate, the group regathered at Jeremy Ferguson’s Battletapes and wrote/recorded two new tracks. They have also released an anniversary collection of their best hits, titled We Are Really Rocking Now, Havent We? remastered on vinyl.
